Yordja
I collaborated with Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung artist Troy Firebrace to create a body of contemporary songs, long-form soundscapes and immersive audio works connected to Yordja.
Yordja is Troy’s immersive cultural methodology, grounded in his lived experience, connection to Elders and Country, and commitment to ethical partnership and authentic engagement with Indigenous knowledge.
Working closely with Troy’s stories, concepts and creative direction, I composed and produced music and sound that supported his cultural and artistic vision. The collaboration moved across contemporary song, electronic production, voice, environmental sound and extended-form composition.
The work included:
Original music composition
Electronic music production
Song development and arrangement
Long-form soundscapes
Sound design
Vocal recording, editing and production
Mixing and final audio preparation
Immersive and multidisciplinary presentation
Into the Dreaming
Into the Dreaming was an immersive sound, light and smoke experience led by Troy Firebrace.
I created the long-form electronic composition and soundscape for the work, developing a sonic environment that operated alongside Troy’s visual and cultural storytelling, light, smoke, performance and the physical presence of the audience.
The composition used rhythm, atmosphere, layered electronic textures and gradual structural development to create an embodied experience rather than a conventional standalone piece of music.
Our broader collaboration included multiple contemporary songs and extended soundscape works, developed from Troy’s narratives, voice and creative direction.
My role varied across each work and included composition, songwriting, arrangement, electronic production, sound design, vocal production, editing and mixing.
These works have been performed at Ok Motels, Charlton in 2024, 25, 26, White Night Ballarat and other events.
